The Municipality of French River is a single-tier municipality located approximately 80 kilometers southeast of the City of Greater Sudbury, and covers an area of approximately 750 square kilometers. It consists of 6 townships and parts of 3 other townships and includes the communities of Alban, Monetville and Noëlville. The Municipality has a population of 2,500 permanent residents and 2,500 seasonal residents.

General/Summary: The Treasurer/Tax Collector reports to the Chief Administrative Officer, and is responsible for the following:

  • Financial management and supervision of Treasury department
  • Tax billing and collection functions
  • Policy development
  • Budget preparation, presentation, and monthly reporting
  • Reporting to Council on financial matters
  • Year end audit coordination and preparation of year end file
  • Grant submissions
  • Lottery Licensing Officer duties
  • Interaction with ratepayers regarding tax related matters


  • Post-secondary education or university degree in Commerce, Finance, Public Administration or Business or a related discipline
  • Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation or within 2 years of certification
  • Formal education in Municipal Accounting and Finance.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a municipal finance position or a similar type of public sector government.
  • CMO/AMCT designation, Municipal Tax Collector’s course and Municipal Accounting Course is an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial, purchasing, accounting and auditing principles and practices, applicable legislation/regulatory standards, investment and debt management, provincial grant processes, property taxation, budget formulation, local government functions and responsibilities.
  • Significant experience in strategic financial planning.
  • Current and clear Criminal Background and Credit Check.
  • The ability to speak, read and write proficiently in the French and English languages is an asset.
