ALLISTON, Ontario, April 9, 2009 — Today, the Honourable Helena Guergis, Member of Parliament for Simcoe—Grey, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for FedNor, announced that the Government of Canada is investing in community-based projects and business services in South-Central Ontario.
“During the past five years, the Nottawasaga Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) has been a vital contributor to the economic prosperity of South-Central Ontario and our Government is proud to support its ongoing efforts,” said MP Guergis.
“Our government is committed to helping small businesses grow by supporting projects that help small and medium-sized enterprises expand and create jobs or start up new ventures,” said Minister Clement. “The Community Futures Program is a key tool in helping to deliver our Economic Action Plan, to build strong, self-reliant communities in Ontario.”
The Nottawasaga Community Futures Development Corporation offers business services, access to capital for small and medium-sized businesses, and support for community development projects. The Government of Canada’s investment through FedNor’s Community Futures Program will support the continuation of these services for one year.
“We are proud to act as a catalyst and coordinator in community economic development activities in our service area,” said Licinio Miguelo, Chair of the Nottawasaga Community Futures Development Corporation. “This ongoing funding will allow us to continue our mandate of job creation and playing a leadership role to develop an entrepreneurial community.”
