CORNWALL, Ontario, April 20, 2007 — Stormont−Dundas−South Glengarry MP Guy Lauzon, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for FedNor, today announced a federal contribution of $923,750 to the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Community Futures Development Corporation (SD&G CFDC) in support of its ongoing operations over three years.
“Through this investment of over $920, 000, Canada’s New Government is getting things done for the people of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry,” stated Mr. Lauzon. “We are taking concrete steps to set the right conditions to ensure that our economy grows stronger, and our markets remain competitive. Our partnership with this Community Futures Development Corporation also helps create jobs, attracts skilled and talented employees in the community and enhance the quality of life for the people of this region.”
Budget 2007, announced by Canada’s New Government in March, introduces a number of key initiatives in support of the small business sector, including:
- reducing the federal paper burden on small business
- reducing the tax compliance burden on small business
- introducing tax reductions which will lower Canada’s tax rate on new business investment
The SD&G CFDC provides services to support local economic development and small business growth, including: access to capital; business services; community-based projects; and strategic community planning and socio-economic development.
“This long-term funding gives us the ability to continue to serve the citizens and businesses of this region,” said SD&G CFDC Chair Charles Sangster. “We are grateful for the faith that the Government of Canada has shown in our work.”
The SD&G CFDC is one of 61 Community Futures Development Corporations in rural and Northern Ontario funded by FedNor’s Community Futures Program.
