Southeast Georgian Bay – the chamber with drive!
On April 6, 2006, Muskoka Community Futures Development Corporation (Muskoka Futures) approved a one time grant funding of $4,000 to the Southeast Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce. This Muskoka Community Initiative grant will go towards the publication of their first annual Directory. The Southeast Georgian Bay Chamber, formerly the Honey Harbour, Port Severn and District Chamber of Commerce, has developed and designed a 2006 Directory to help promote businesses and services in the area. While this chamber of commerce has close to 100 members, they have the drive and the spirit of thousands. The 2006 Directory is a bold new step for this organization and is now available at all chamber member locations, through Muskoka Tourism, Ontario Tourism in Barrie and at local hot spots.
As Jan Lucy, Muskoka Futures Chair, puts it, “This project is an excellent example of how a dedicated organization, of any size, can take an idea and make it a reality, just by identifying and accessing local funding opportunities. The whole purpose of the Muskoka Community Initiative is to support community economic development; whether it is promoting local businesses and services, enhancing community programs or stimulating volunteerism and community spirit.”
