PRINCE EDWARD/LENNOX & ADDINGTON COMMUNITY FUTURES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION News Release PELA CFDC AND INDUSTRY CANADA SUPPORT TOURIST ATTRACTION PROGRAM IN LOYALIST TOWNSHIP

LOYALIST TOWNSHIP, ODESSA, Ontario, March 14, 2005 – Mr. Doug Sexsmith, Chair, Prince Edward/Lennox & Addington Community Futures Development Corporation (PELA CFDC) and Clayton McEwen, Reeve, Loyalist Township, today announced the launch of a new tourism marketing brochure to promote the dynamic communities of Loyalist Township.  The project will also analyse and recommend an action plan to enhance the operation and strategic alliances among tourism organization in Bath, Wilton, Odessa, Amherstview and Amherst Island.  The project is being supported with a grant from the Government of Canada’s Eastern Ontario Development Fund in the amount of $10,000.

“We are pleased that the Eastern Ontario Development Fund can support a project that assists tourist attraction in the region,” said PELA CFDC Chair Sexsmith.  “The economic benefits that tourism dollars can bring to the area will help support private sector businesses and not-for-profit groups alike.  We are pleased to assist in publicizing Loyalist Township to the tourist market across Ontario.”

Loyalist Township Reeve, Clayton McEwen, said, "On behalf of Loyalist Township residents and businesses, I thank PELA CFDC for the generous grant from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund to develop the first tourism brochure for Loyalist Township.  We are very excited about this opportunity to encourage visitors to explore the heritage, unique businesses, recreational facilities and beauty of Loyalist Township.  We also anticipate that from the broad exposure of this brochure, there will be increased potential for existing and future business development in our municipality."

Lennox &Addington County Economic Development Manager, Hollee Kew, said, “This project is a perfect example of successful partnership building.  PELA CFDC’s administration of the Eastern Ontario Development Fund is making a positive difference in the community.  I commend Loyalist Township Council and staff for capitalizing on the incredible tourism potential in their community.”

Through this initiative, the Government of Canada is acting on its commitment to support economic growth and diversification in rural Eastern Ontario.  Funding for this initiative was provided for in the March 2004 federal budget, and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
