On June 27, 2008, Renfrew County’s newest entrepreneurs were, for the first time ever, enabled to showcase their business products and services and increase the public’s knowledge of new places to Buy Locally! The unique partnership between Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation, Enterprise Renfrew County and myFM Radio facilitated an opportunity to offer a great and affordable package to New Businesses within the county. With a goal to foster and nurture their progress by providing a great deal of resources and support to help them maximize their opportunity at the show, as well as provide resources to other individuals interested in developing a new business of their own, the New Business Expo was the first of its kind in the region.
Eligible participants were limited to businesses that had been started within the last three years, as this group often has limited resources to be able to participate in a show with this scope. The two largest tradeshows that take place in the county are the Renfrew Home Show and the Petawawa Showcase. Both of these events are significantly more expensive for small businesses to participate in and do not offer the added value that was available with the New Business Expo.
The New Business Expo created an opportunity for new businesses to increase their visibility through their tradeshow exhibit, radio advertising and print advertising at an extremely affordable cost. This not only generated additional networking opportunities and business leads for the participating entrepreneurs, but also offered the community a venue to explore newer businesses, products and services available in the area that they may have been otherwise unaware of effectively promoting the campaign to “Buy Locally!” in Renfrew County. By making the public aware of what is available in our area, we keep valuable spending dollars here that will continue to sustain and boost our local economy.
