MUNCEY, Ontario, June 3, 2009 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced that the Government of Canada is investing in community-based projects and business services in the First Nations communities of Southwestern Ontario and the Bruce Peninsula.
With the Government of Canada’s investment, through the Community Future’s Program, the Tecumseh Community Development Corporation will offer business services, access to capital for small and medium-sized businesses, and support to community development projects for a one-year period.
“Our government is proud to support the Tecumseh Community Development Corporation in their efforts to strengthen the economy of First Nations communities in Southwestern Ontario and the Bruce Peninsula,” said Minister Clement. “Today’s investment supports our Government’s Economic Action Plan, which is committed to business development and growth, job creation and economic diversification throughout Ontario and across the country.”
"Most of the job creation taking place in Canada has come through those with the vision to strike out on their own and I am pleased that through this funding our government will continue to support the efforts of the Tecumseh Community Futures Development Corporation," said Member of Parliament, Bev Shipley.
“Today’s announcement clearly demonstrates that the Government of Canada has confidence in the work we do and remains committed to supporting economic development at the grassroots level,” stated, Caroline Ortiz, Chair of the Tecumseh CFDC. “The announcement made today will allow us to continue to focus our efforts on economic diversity and job creation.”
