SEAFORTH, Ontario, June 25, 2007 — Perth–Wellington MP Gary Schellenberger, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for FedNor, today announced a federal contribution of $287,500 to the local Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) known as the Huron Business Development Corporation in support of its ongoing operations over the next year.
“Canada’s New Government is creating the right conditions for small and medium-sized businesses to thrive,” stated Mr. Schellenberger. “This funding of over $287,000 further demonstrates our commitment to strengthening rural communities and to getting things done for the people of Huron County.”
Budget 2007, announced March 19th in Ottawa, introduced a number of key initiatives in support of the small business sector, including:
- reducing the federal paper burden on small business
- reducing the tax compliance burden on small business
- introducing tax reductions which will lower Canada’s tax rate on new business investment
The Huron Business Development Corporation provides services to support local economic development and small business growth, including: access to capital; business services; community-based projects; and strategic community planning and socio-economic development.
Over the last year, the Huron Business Development Corporation invested more than $1.4 million and assisted in creating or maintaining 97 jobs through the Community Futures Program, contributing to an enhanced business community.
“We are pleased with the role we play in fostering economic growth, diversification and job creation by improving access to capital in the region,” said Pamela Stanley, Chair of the Huron Business Development Corporation. “We are grateful for this support from the Government of Canada.”
The Huron Business Development Corporation is one of 61 Community Futures Development Corporations in rural and Northern Ontario funded by FedNor’s Community Futures Program.
